Senior Information

A student must have at least 16 credits, including English I, II, and III, three credits of math, and be able to make a graduating schedule according to the Mountain Home High School Career Academies diploma requirements to be classified as a senior.  Students who do not meet the minimum credits will be reclassified as juniors.  Senior status may have to be re-evaluated prior to commencement to determine if the student is eligible to participate in commencement.

Mountain Home Public Schools Core/Smart Core/Smart Core with Honors – There are two diplomas offered at Mountain Home High School.  All students are considered on the Smart Core unless a parent indicates otherwise by signing the Smart Core form and waiver form to be identified as a CORE diplomas recipient.  Students must meet ALL the requirements to receive the diploma for which they are working this includes the GPA requirement.  Please note that student must obtain all the requirements of the SMART CORE WITH HONORS DIPLOMA in order to be an Honor Graduate from Mountain Home High School.  Academic advisors, counselors, and administrators will do all they can to insure that students have fulfilled diploma requirements.  Final responsibility rests with the student and parents, so please check class selection very carefully.  Contact your child’s academic advisor, counselor, or an administrator if you have questions about diploma requirements.

2012 and 2013 Core Diploma – State of Arkansas Requirements: (22 credits)

·         English - 4 credits: 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th

·         Mathematics – 4 credits: Must be Algebra I (1.0), Geometry (1.0), Algebra II (1.0), and 1 elective credit

·         Science – 3 credits:  Must be Physical Science (1.0), Biology (1.0), and 1 elective credit

·         Social Studies – 3 credits:  must be civics (.5), world history (1.0), American History (1.0), and .5 elective credit (Must be MHHS Elective-----see below)

·         Physical Education - .5 credit: may be a P.E. class, any sport taught by a certified P.E. teacher, or ROTC

·         Health - .5 credit

·         Oral Communication - .5 credit

·         Fine Arts - .5 credit: can be band, choir, drama (high school only), or art

·         Career Focus ---- 6 credits

Additional Mountain Home High School Requirements:  (2 additional credits) the following must be included.

                                   ·          Contemporary American History - .5 credit:  MUST be taken as the required .5 elective in the state requirement above.

                                   ·          Practical Art – 1.0 credit: can be taken as part of the Career Focus 6 credits

 

Requirements:  1.0 Grade Point Average and a total of 24 combined credits.

 

2012 and 2013 Smart Core Diploma – State of Arkansas Requirements:  (22 credits)

·         Foreign Language – 2.0 credits:  must be the same language/two consecutive levels

 

2012 and 2013 SMART CORE DIPLOMA WITH HONORS – STATE OF ARKANSAS REQUIREMENTS:  (22 CREDITS)

Students must maintain a 3.5 Grade Point Average. To graduate with honors, a student must complete the Smart Core diploma requirement in addition to completing at least two Advanced Placement (AP courses.

 

The following designations are made based on a student’s GPA:  summa cum laude = above 4.00; magna cum laude = 3.75-4.00; cum laude – 3.50-3.75

 

·         English - 4 credits: 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th

·         Mathematics – 4 credits: Must be Algebra I (1.0), Geometry (1.0), Algebra II (1.0), and 1 elective credit

·         Science – 3 credits:  Must be Physical Science (1.0), Biology (1.0), and 1 elective credit

·         Social Studies – 3 credits:  must be civics or civics/government (1.0), world history (1.0, American History (1.0), and .5 elective credit (Must be MHHS Elective-----see below)

·         Advanced Placement Classes (AP)  - 2.0 credits: choices include AP calculus, AP Literature/Composition, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, AP Chemistry, AP American History, and AP World History.

·         Elective Credits; Elective credits are any classes taken in addition to the required courses.  It does not matter if those credits are in the elective area or in a core subject area.  (The University of Arkansas requires 3 electives to be chosen from foreign language, oral communication, math, science, social studies, or computer science).
