COLLEGE ENTRANCE
EXAMS?
All post-secondary institutions require some type of entrance exam. The following sites are available for you to register and/or gain insight to the test(s) requirements:
ACT - Registration packets are available in MHHS Counseling Services Room 101 or register on-line. The ACT exam includes an interest inventory, biographical data, and four tests of educational development that are used by colleges for admission, advising, course placement, and scholarship selection. [test date information]
Asset - The Asset is a timed paper and pencil test used by some two year and technical schools for those who do not like computerized tests. Test scores are used to help ensure accurate placement in English and math courses.
ASVAB - Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is an aptitude test of vocational skills and readiness. It helps students explore career/training options. There is no fee for this test. Juniors and senior students who want to take the ASVAB at MHHS will take it on December 7, 2011.
Compass - The Compass is used at Arkansas State University - Mountain Home as well as at other two year and technical schools as a placement exam for college enrollment. Call the college to make an appointment to take this exam.
PSAT - The PSAT will be given at Mountain Home High School on October 12, 2011. Juniors take this exam as a qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Sophomores may take this exam for practice only. Listen to the announcements and sign up in the principal's office.
SAT I - The SAT will be given at Mountain Home High School in November. Register online.
TEST Prep
Any student interested in test preparation is invited to MHHS Counseling Services computer lab 7:55-8:55 a.m. on Wednesday if you do not have to attend AGS/PIT or 3:15-5:00 p.m. on Tuesday by appointment (see your counselor). The school does provide an excellent site for practicing the ACT.
If you have experience taking the ACT/PSAT/SAT, you are invited to join this test prep group as a volunteer to help others on practice questions and converse related to your experience. This volunteer opportunity will benefit your senior resume; volunteer hours will be recorded for scholarship purposes. See your counselor to take advantage of this great opportunity.
The National Merit®
Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and
scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit
Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying
Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)–a
test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants
each year–and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements. http://www.nationalmerit.org/Merit_R&I_Leaflet.pdf
