MHHS Counselor A-K

 

Since 2002, Orene Traylor has been the MHHS counselor for students whose last names are A-K. She has been an educator since 1990 and a counselor since 1997.  In November 2007, she received National Board Certification in Early Childhood through Young Adulthood School Counseling. More recently (2011), Orene has enrolled in a twenty week Career Developmental Facilitator course (A CDF is a person who has received in-depth training in the areas of career development in the form of up to 120+ class/instructional hours.); she is also enrolled at Arkansas State University and is taking classes towards a Specialist in Education degree in Psychology & Counseling. 

 

Orene is a graduate of Spearsville High School, Spearsville, Louisiana, North Central Vocational School, Farmerville, Louisiana, and Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, Louisiana.  Prior to being employed with the Mountain Home School District, Orene served as a teacher for the Union Parish School District, Farmerville, Louisiana at Farmerville High School for business grades 9-12 and Lillie Middle School, Lillie, Louisiana grade four.  Upon moving to Arkansas in 1997, she served as a business teacher and counselor (K-12) for the Fourche Valley School District, Briggsville, Arkansas. Orene has a versatile background and is lifelong student as she continues to educate herself to best meet the needs of her students.  Stagnant is something Orene does not want to become; therefore, she continues to attend numerous conferences, in-service opportunities, and educational events.  She is not only certified in secondary counseling and guidance, but she also holds certification in six other areas (business tech, business education computer tech endorsement, business education vocational endorsement, elementary education grades 1 through 6, adult education, and elementary counseling and guidance). Orene has had many “awwwhhh moments” during her career and worked with many wonderful people and students, one of her most memorable moments occurred through the help of the Lighthouse Christian Center, she organized the Fourche Valley Adult Education Center and helped educate adults ages 18 to >70.

 

This school year, Orene will be serving as vice president for the North Central Region Arkansas School Counseling Association. For the past three years, she has served as the NCRArSCA Secretary.  She encourages other counselors in this region to take an active part in ArSCA.

 

On this educational and career adventure, Orene knows that the best is yet to come.  She feels that she is truly blessed by the experiences that she has encountered thus far.  Her daily practice and attitude is to count your blessings, give thanks, and never take anything for granted.  She foresees her coming years filled with meeting, teaching, and helping young adults develop their plans and dreams for the future.

 

Orene looks forward to serving students, parents, school personnel, and community members at Mountain Home High School Career Academies this year.  2011-2012 is going to be an exciting year not only for the graduating class of 2012, but also for Orene’s husband and daughter who will be graduating from Arkansas State University.
