MOUNTAIN HOME CAREER ACADEMY MENTORING MANUAL POSTED AS RESOURCE FOR CAREER ACADEMIES ON NATIONAL ACTE WEBSITE

After two years of research the Mountain Home School District adopted the career academy model at the high school level.  Mountain Home High School Career Academies capitalize on student interests and aptitudes to provide a curriculum that both challenges and motivates all students.  Career related electives are clustered into a coherent sequence of courses and links them to core academic courses.  The academy concept provides students with a sense of relevance across the entire curriculum.  Teachers work together to integrate lessons around common themes and projects so students receive an enhanced curriculum and a coordinated effort is made to bring outside resources such as expert speakers and real world applications from the world of employment into the classroom.

Career Academies provide students the opportunity to focus on their strengths and interests, exposure to broad career themes within each academy, and a strong connection to other students, staff, and community partners. Ultimately, the mission of Mountain Home High School Career Academies is to allow students to discover and actualize their strengths, and to graduate productive, focused young adults who enter the post-secondary
world with a realistic plan for the future.
