Ms. Brigitte Shipman is the Mountain Home Career Academy Coordinator. She is a Flippin High School graduate. Ms. Shipman holds a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville Arkansas, a Master’s degree in Administration, Arkansas State University, Jonesboro Arkansas. Our High School operates as a wall-to-wall career academy model. To successfully implement this academy model many factors play a role. Faculty led this reform going from a traditional high school to national designated career academy high school. This program has prospered with community, administration and teacher support. This has benefited our students to become more motivated and engaged not only in their current high school careers, but also a strong focus on their post-secondary career pathways and success. Community support has been vital in our model success. Through community support we have offered student enriched internships, and an effective mentorship program. Our business advisory board for our career academies is a partnership that creates and supports our sustainability and continued success. In 2008, we were nationally recognized with the NCAC (National Career Academy Coalition) certified and model status for all three of our career academies. Our Career Academy High School also has received the Ford designation for rural high schools nationwide. We have been invited to present both at the state and national level and most recently have been named the showcase school for the state of Arkansas. |
