OFFICIAL MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING

OF THE MOUNTAIN HOME BOARD OF EDUCATION

 

December 16, 2004

 

The following members of the Board were present for the meeting: Bob Byrd, James Madison, Mark Milholland, Neal Pendergrass, Linda Pitts, Scott Smith and Eric Webb.  Administrators, media and other guests were also present.  Mr. Pendergrass called the special meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

 

Mr. Pendergrass stated the purpose of this special meeting is to hear the recommendation from the Superintendent on the expulsion of a junior high student.  Mr. Pendergrass asked if the student and/or parents/guardians were present.  Student, guardians and their representative were present.  Mr. Pendergrass asked if they wanted the hearing to be an open or closed hearing.  Their representative asked for the hearing to be a closed hearing.

 

Everyone was excused from the special meeting except the superintendent, principal/assistant principal, guardians, student and their representative. 

 

The special meeting reconvened at 7:35 p.m.   

 

Motion on Expulsion of Student

           

Mr. Pendergrass asked the Board if they had a motion.

 

Mr. Hollingsworth made a motion, seconded by Mr. Webb, to modify the expulsion recommendation to suspend the student through the 3rd quarter.  The student will be allowed to return to school at the beginning of the 4th quarter if the student receives bi-weekly (once very two weeks) drug testing with the cost of the drug testing paid for by the family; the student will continue with counseling and a monthly report will be sent to Mr. Henderson and Mr. Kincade.  The family will also be responsible for any and all transportation needed by the student.

 

The motion was unanimously approved.

 

 

ADJOURNMENT

 

At 7:40 p.m. a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and unanimously approved.
